Dixie Mable Dayton Beatty

January 20, 1934 — April 13, 2022

Dixie Mable Dayton Beatty was born on January 20, 1934 in Heber City, Utah to Bert and Dortha Duke Dayton, the oldest and only daughter with three little brothers. She passed away on April 13, 2022 in St George, Utah at the age of 88.

Dixie grew up in Heber City, Utah and married DeVar Beatty, her Wasatch High School sweetheart (a cheerleader/basketball player romance!), on August 2, 1951 in the Logan, Utah Temple. They moved their young family to the Las Vegas valley in 1954. After raising their four children in Las Vegas and enjoying their cabin in Pine Valley, Utah they built a beautiful home in Woodland Hills, Utah where they lived for 17 years and have called St. George home for the past six years.

She was a loving and faithful wife and raised her family with great care. She enjoyed quilting, vegetable gardening and playing games. She especially enjoyed Scrabble and Phase10, and would usually win!

She was a talented seamstress and made dresses for her two girls when they were little and their prom and wedding dresses when they grew up. She was a Cub Scout leader for her two boys and served wherever she was asked including twice as Relief Society President. She and DeVar were blessed to serve in both the Las Vegas Temple and the Provo Temple for many years. They also served as senior missionaries in the Canada Halifax Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where they spent their entire time serving the Saints in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland 1995-96.

Dixie was a willing partner in building their own homes in Las Vegas, Pine Valley and Woodland Hills where she was known to wield a tool or a paintbrush to help get things done. She was fun and funny and a wonderful cook. We loved her dearly and will miss her in so many ways.

Dixie is survived by DeVar, her loving husband of 70 years; daughters Dawna Lee Drake (Denny) and Diane De La Paz (Kike); sons Ken Beatty (Peggy) and Mark Beatty (Shannan); brothers Gary Dayton (Zona) and Steve Dayton (Sylvia). Dixie was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ralph Dayton (Nila). Dixie is grandmother to 17 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 43, and when spouses are added, her family count now is 85 people.
