Mark Benjamin Wilcox - November 4, 1955 - November 5, 2021

Mark Benjamin Wilcox, age 66, of Saint George, died November 5, 2021 after suffering a heart attack the previous day, his birthday.

Mark will be missed by his family including his mother Viola Wilcox, age 93, and brothers Bruce and David and sisters Susan and Nancy. He joins his father, Keith Vern Wilcox, in the world of spirits to await the resurrection.

He was born in Pomona, California and raised in San Dimas, California where he attended elementary school and also San Dimas High School where he was a member of the inaugural graduating class, the class of 1973. He was an active tennis player and progressed from most-improved, to school most-valuable, and to league most-valuable player his sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Mark served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the England London South mission from 1975 through 1977.

He went on to attend Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California where he also played tennis and earned awards. He also briefly attended Brigham Young University, Provo. Mark loved playing and teaching tennis. He continued to enjoy tennis and swimming throughout his life.

In his 20’s, Mark contracted an illness that blocked further growth of hair on his body. Prior to that he had beautiful blond hair. He handled that challenge with dignity and a sense of humor throughout the rest of his life - which was a wonderful example to all.

He spent his career in retail sales doing personal tennis training on the side. He resided in Covina, California, and later Orange, California. Mark moved to Saint George in 2010. He was a member of the Bloomington 8th and Saint George 5th wards. In Saint George, he worked for a time at Lion’s Gate Recovery as a Psych Technician.

Mark’s warmth, generosity and acceptance of others was a gift to all who knew him. Mark made friends wherever he went and often sought to befriend those who were marginalized.

Always engaging, Mark valued spirituality and enjoyed discussing gospel topics. A skillful speaker and teacher he always sought to connect gospel precepts with their applications in daily life and relationships.

Mark especially enjoyed being with children. Children enjoyed Mark’s sense of fun and zest for life. He firmly believed that “of such was the kingdom of Heaven” and often spoke with others on this favorite topic. He was loved by children everywhere and was Uncle Mark to many - relatives and the non-relatives alike.

Mark will be missed by all who knew him and emulated by many who appreciated his fun-loving and kind spirit.

The dedication of Mark’s grave will take place at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S Dixie Dr, Saint George, on Wednesday, November 10 at 3:00 PM.
