Russell Lee Brown

November 29, 1981 – October 9, 2021

Russell, our beloved son, brother, and best friend – was also known as Alex Peony, unexpectedly passed away from drowning in the San Francisco Bay.

“The wound is the place where the light enters you” -Rumi

Russ was survived by his mother Becky Jo Dorius and his father Clifford Lee Brown along with his siblings; Ryan Brown, Jolie Brown, Krisjon Brown, Dana M. Lucky, Amy Silva, Nicholotte Parker, Orion Parker, Britni Hoyt, Garet Hoyt, Falcon Parker, Brandon Case, Julie Case and Scott Case.

Russ was graced with a keen sense of observation and took joy in life’s small and simple moments. He loved being in nature and knew great respect for it. He also understood self-reliance there as he traveled and explored the world. His own nature was complex, but his heart was true as the sky blue.

Russ could seamlessly pilot a skateboard and would make it look easy, he was a good student, traveled extensively and met many folks and friends along the way. His family was very proud of him when he joined the Navy, working as a helicopter and aircraft electrician for four years when he was honorably discharged. He excelled in academia and was hours away from achieving his BFA from Humboldt State, thus leaving an exceptional body of works of art. He created art wherever he traveled to and found true enjoyment working with paint, photography, and sculpture in several mediums. He lived courageously as one does who is devoted to following one’s dreams. Knowing Russ was a remarkable thing as he was a man with a knack for subtlety and intention. People and friends, he’d meet along the way often would enjoy good conversations and many laughs. He always had a joke and enjoyed being a part of comedy community. Russ was a standup comedian in the cities he lived including Brooklyn, New York, and New Jersey. His older brother Ryan knew how to hold space with others, often leaving them sto reflect upon their own dreams and truths within. He will truly be missed by all of his family and friends.
