Allene Wright Stratton passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026 at her home in Hurricane, Utah. She was 91 years of age.
Allene was born October 28, 1934 in Hurricane, Utah to Arthur Warren and Irene Nielson Wright. She was the only daughter, and the first of six children. Allene's early years were during the Great Depression when work opportunities were scarce, and consequently their family had to move around to find work. Allene lived in McKeeversville, Boulder City, and Henderson, Nevada, and St. George, Tooele, and Hurricane, Utah. She made lifelong friends in each place. Allene attended school in Boulder City, Nevada, Tooele, Utah, and Hurricane, Utah. She was a good student who loved to read, loved journalism and languages, music, and was talented in art. She was co-editor of the yearbook, and graduated from Hurricane High School in 1952.
In Allene's senior year of high school, an acquaintance introduced her to Arden Stratton. Though Arden was covered with sawdust from working at the Hurricane Cabinet Shop, Allene was favorably impressed. Arden and Allene dated, fell in love, and were married in the St. George Temple on Valentine's Day, 1952. They were blessed with 3 boys, Michael, Brent, and Marlon. Allene loved her boys, but always wanted a girl. Later in life she got her wish when each of her boys found an exceptional young woman and married. Her daughters are Dendra, Evelyn, and Diann. To Allene's delight, each of her sons' marriages produced grandsons and granddaughters for her to love.
Allene was co-owner and operator of the Hurricane Cabinet Shop for a time, and also worked outside the home occasionally when the boys were a little older, but her main vocation was as a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was devoted to her parents, brothers, husband, and family. Allene was an outstanding daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend. Included in her many positive attributes were her skills as a teacher, seamstress, quilter, chef, and baker. She supported her husband in just about everything he did, including going deer hunting on her birthday. Allene's family have fond memories of delicious meals, the smell of freshly baked home made bread that she shared generously, time spent with Allene visiting, working on a quilt, or learning how to use the ruffler on her sewing machine. Allene was a farmer's wife, and consequently she not only helped with the gardens and animals, but also preserved the harvest. Her family enjoyed the bottled peaches, apricots, beets, and corn Allene preserved, and her green tomato chow was memorably delicious.
Allene is survived by her brothers Ron (Janet) of Newton, Utah, Don (Tina) of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Neil (Lyn) of Hurricane, Utah; her children, Michael D. (Dendra) of Toquerville, Brent W (Evelyn) of Hurricane, and Marlon D. (Diann) of St. George. Allene will also be missed by her 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Allene was preceded in death by her husband, Arden, her parents Arthur Warren and Irene Wright, her brothers Arthur, and Norman, sisters-in-law Katherine, Corinne, and Angela, and granddaughter Michon Stratton Paddock.
A viewing for Allene will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, at the Hurricane 14th Ward chapel located at 155 East 1050 North in Hurricane, Utah. The funeral service will follow the viewing at 11 AM. Interment will take place following the service at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
The family wishes to express appreciation to those who helped with Mom's medical and hospice care, especially Missy and Trissy of Mission Home Health.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff Street, St. George, Utah (435) 673-2454.
