Barbara Curtis Abplanalp
June 23, 1944 - March 13, 2026
Barbara Curtis Abplanalp, age 81, passed away leaving behind a legacy of kindness and quiet strength. Born in Idaho Falls on June 23, 1944, Barbara was the cherished only child of Lt. Lyle J. Curtis, a decorated war hero, and Erma Phillips.
Family and Heart
After graduating from Bonneville High School in 1962, Barbara moved to Salt Lake City. There, she married Arthur Dennis Stroud (later divorced) and together they raised three daughters: Kelly Susan Boyce (Steve), Kristine Fronk (Garret), and Kathalee Beazer (Scott).
Barbara later found a devoted life companion in James Kent Abplanalp. They shared many years together until his passing on July 28, 2024. Through their marriage, Barbara's family grew to include her stepdaughters, Cindy Burningham (Kim) and Lisa Carson (Matt), whom she cared for deeply.
A Life of Service and Simple Joys
For many years, Barbara was a friendly and familiar face at Southwood Pharmacy. As a pharmacy technician, she took great pride in her work, but she truly loved her customers. She had a natural way of making everyone who walked through the door feel cared for and important.
Barbara found happiness in the simple things. In her earlier years, she spent many afternoons bowling and playing tennis for the pure enjoyment of the game and the company of friends. She had a great love for cats, an impressive collection of shoes, and a deep appreciation for dark chocolate. When she wasn't with her family, she could often be found lost in the pages of a romance novel.
Her Legacy
Barbara is survived by:
Her daughters: Kelly Susan Boyce (Steve), Kristine Fronk (Garret), and Kathalee Beazer (Scott)
Her stepdaughters: Cindy Burningham (Kim) and Lisa Carson (Matt)
11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren
Surviving siblings: Lynn, Marsha, Jim, Vicky Jean, and Wendy
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Ramona Richards for all of her kindness, love, and unwavering friendship shown to Barbara over the years. Barbara will be remembered for her impeccable style and the genuine care she showed to everyone in her life.
