Calvin Jacob Barlocker

Calvin Jacob Barlocker, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Enterprise, Utah, on March 13, 2026. A man of determination, unyielding energy, and eternal optimism. Calvin was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ who brought a spirit of light and a radiating smile to every interaction. His radiant grin always communicated warmth, kindness and positivity.

He was born on October 24, 1940, to Arthur and Rosell (Truman) Barlocker in Cedar City, UT. On many occasions he claimed he was raised by 5 mothers, four of those being his loving older sisters. He held his sisters in the highest regard. A natural athlete, he played basketball at Enterprise High School, graduating in 1958 and his talent on the court continued at Utah State, where he played in 1960,but got homesick and returned to Southern, UT. Throughout his youth, Calvin was known for his high energy and the competitive spirit that would later fuel his professional success.

In 1959, Calvin joined the Army and did basic training at Fort Ord. Then he joined the National Guard. In 1961, he was drafted back into the army during the Berlin Crisis and joined special forces. His time in the service instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline and leadership.

Calvin was a born salesman and a visionary entrepreneur. In 1967, he founded Barlocker Insurance Company, a business he built from the ground up through grit and a unique ability to connect with people. For nearly four decades, he nurtured and grew the company, providing employment opportunities to many and servicing his clients well.

After selling the insurance company in 2005, Calvin's "retirement" was short-lived. In 2011, his driven nature led him to purchase and build up Cal's Monterey Motors, a car dealership in Seaside, California, which he operated until 2014. A great motivator of others, Calvin loved to be "The Boss" and took great pride in his work. After decades of professional success in California, Calvin again retired and returned to his roots in Enterprise. He could often be found on his tractor and found much joy farming the land near his childhood home.

Above all, Calvin's life was anchored by his faith and his love for family. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in several church callings, touching many lives with his testimony, talents, and service. Calvin cherished his family. He married Ann Cottam in 1960 and later divorced after they were blessed with a son, Bill, in 1962, and a daughter, Tina, in 1963. He met the love of his life, Margaret and daughter Alison, and married in 1975. They shared a beautiful life together, adding children MaryJane in 1976, CJ in 1977, and Michael in 1980.

This past year was highlighted by their 50th Anniversary cruises with all their family. Calvin loved to see his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He wished to be with them longer; to see them grow, learn, stretch, serve, and find happiness. His legacy will endure as a source of inspiration and strength for his posterity.

Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rose; his brothers, Bill and Truman; sisters, Marilla Terry, Nora Hall, and Katie Gentry; Calvin and Margaret's son, CJ Barlocker; and their great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Sweet.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; his sister Vella Rose Smith; his children: Bill (Denise), Tina (Erik), Alison, MaryJane, and Michael (Cycerli).

He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Joshua, Nicole, Stewart, Justin, Sarah, Dylan, Garrett, Abby, Kevin, Mark, Janie, Eddie, Heidi, Ashley, Lexi, Mica, Peter, Anna, Polly Lisa, and Iris. He was also the proud great-grandfather to 30 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Memorial Services:

A public viewing will be held Friday, March 20th, from 6:00-7:30 pm at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, UT. A viewing will also be held Saturday March 21st, from 12:30-1:30 pm at the Enterprise Stake Center (80 Center Street) with a funeral to follow at 2:00 pm.
