Charles William Dixon, beloved father, grandfather, husband, and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 96. Charles leaves behind a remarkable life filled with faith, family, and service.
Born in Louisiana on October 27, 1928, to John W. Dixon and Mary Brunetter Ficklin, he was the youngest of five brothers and three sisters. Charles grew up with deep roots in the community that would shape his lifelong devotion to God and country. He graduated from Baker High School, where he was senior class president and a standout basketball player - a sport he loved throughout his life.
In 1953, Charles married his sweetheart, Iris Yvonne Bauer, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. After the death of his first wife of 54 years, Charles was again blessed with love, marrying Alice Fay McLemore in Baker, Louisiana, in 2008. Together they built a joyful life in St. George, Utah.
Charles was the first full-time missionary from the state of Louisiana to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His call to the Northern California Mission began a lifetime of service, including three additional full-time missions: a proselyting mission in New Jersey, a genealogical mission in Salt Lake City, Utah, and a temple mission in St. George, Utah, alongside his wife, Yvonne.
Professionally, Charles dedicated over 50 years to the Rieger/Medi-Save group of pharmaceutical supplies and finished his long career as the head buyer for the company.
He served his country in the Louisiana Army National Guard Reserves and was honorably discharged.
Charles was a kind, loving, and compassionate man. His life was a quiet sermon of humility, service, and faith. He diligently served in numerous church callings and always gave of himself without hesitation. He found joy in family gatherings, basketball games, temple/missionary work, and helping others. He loved to sing. His legacy is not only the work he did, but the countless lives he touched through his unwavering example of Christlike love.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice Dixon of St. George, Utah; his three devoted daughters: Myra Baker (Marty) of Washington, Utah; Bonnie Burgoon (Chuck) of Beach City, Texas; and Lori Bergold (Gary) of Alvaton, Kentucky; and three step-children, Michael Nope (Ellen), Nancy Tweedy (Michael), and Edwin Nope (Jeanne). He has 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild - each of whom was dearly loved and inspired by his wisdom and warmth.
A public viewing will be held at 881 S. River Rd, St. George, Utah, on August 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM, followed by a private family service. A graveside ceremony with military honors will begin at 12:00 PM, at the Washington City Cemetery.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah. 435-673-2454. Family and friends are invited to sign Charles online guest book at www.SpilsburyMortuary.com
