Darrell Baker, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025. He was born on March 13, 1941, in St. George, Utah, to William and Melba Baker. The seventh of 11 children, Darrell often joked that with his mom and dad, they made up a true Baker's dozen.
Darrell married Norma Alger on March 1, 1963, and they were later sealed in the LDS Temple and then divorced. Together, they were blessed with two daughters: Ronda Spenger (Mike) of Safford, Arizona, and Denise Holbrook (Richard) of Evanston, Wyoming. On October 22, 1996, Darrell married Jacqueline Carol Baker and welcomed her four sons into his life as his own: Jerry Rimer (Cathy), Jeff Rimer (Seanne), James Rimer (Nikki), and Jon Rimer (Janet).
He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Darrell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and later built a career in the trucking industry. He co-founded Bakston Trucking with his good friend Jed Johnston, building a reputation for hard work, grit, and loyalty.
A man of many talents, Darrell was once a skilled boxer and also played both the piano and the guitar. He loved music, good conversation, and the simple joy of sitting in the garage visiting with friends and neighbors. His door-and his heart-were always open.
Known for his quick wit and sharp comebacks, Darrell was a natural jokester who could light up any room with a one-liner. But behind the humor was a deeply generous man, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was proud to be a native of St. George and to have served his country as a veteran.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Spilsbury Mortuary in St. George. A viewing will take place from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., followed by services at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at the Washington City Cemetery.
