Douglas Claude Abbott

April 9, 1941 — November 18, 2021

Washington, Utah –
Douglas Claude Abbott, 80, of Washington, UT, passed away on November 18, 2021. He was born to Claude Abbott and Marjorie Bowler on April 09th, 1941. He married his sweetheart Gennilee Kahle on August 31st 1962.
Doug and Genny stayed in Las Vegas until 1972 when they moved their family of 4 to the small town of St. George, UT. He was a journeyman pipefitter by trade where he excelled in making gates, staircases, and… babies. Doug and Genny went on to have 6 more children while also raising 4 of Genny’s siblings and many others along the way.
Dad loved to go hunting and for us kids it was the best family vacation you could ask for. Dad made sure no kid was left behind, even if that meant wearing them on his back with 6 or 7 little ones trailing behind him. Although it sounds chaotic and less than ideal, it’s important to note that grandpa was always the one who came home with the biggest buck. He loved being outdoors, whether he was working on his garden where he found solace, or enjoying the beauty of southern Utah. He was a simple man with only a few prized possessions; his family and the mountings on his wall. Materialistic things were not important to him, time and people were.
Grandpa was a captivating storyteller and the ultimate prankster. There wasn’t much that came out of his mouth that wasn’t witty, often getting him in trouble but always making people laugh. More than anything else, he was a lover. He loved fiercely and with his whole heart.
He is survived by his beautiful wife Gennilee Abbott of 60 years, 8 children, 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
