FRIEDA N. JACOBSEN - STEVENS (October 30, 1929 - September 14, 2025).
At the age of nearly 96, Frieda N. Jacobsen-Stevens passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025.
Born October 30, 1929, shortly after the start of the Great Depression, Frieda and her twin sister, Faunda, were the fourth and fifth children born to Joseph R. Naillon and Emma Carpenter, in the small town of Flowell, Utah. Their father, J.R., often joked, "When they start coming in twos, it's time to quit.
During those difficult years, the Naillon family moved often before eventually settling in Salt Lake City where Frieda graduated from West High School. While still in school, she worked at the Garden Gate Ice Cream shop, where she met a young World War II veteran, Melvin Jacobsen. The two fell in love and were married on June 15, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Mel and Frieda were blessed with five children; Ronald who passed away shortly after birth, Shawna, Myron, Dena, and Kent. Together, the family built a lifetime of memories camping, fishing and gathering with loved ones. They made annual trips to Freemont Lake in Wyoming, Memorial Day weekends in Wallsburg, Utah, and reunions with friends in Darby, Montana. They enjoyed Halloween parties at Uncle Bob and Aunt Belva's, and accordion Christmas parties at the Lehi Rodeo Club.
Frieda worked as an Administrative Assistant at a large accounting firm in Salt Lake City. She loved handing out payroll checks and cherished the hugs and smiles she received in return, sometimes even getting a kiss on the cheek.
After retirement, Frieda and Mel moved to St. George, Utah, where she became active in the American Legion and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. After Mel's passing in 2015, Frieda later married Bob Stevens and moved to Washington, Utah. She cared deeply for her family and remained resilient through the loss of her beloved husbands, as well as her daughter Shawna (2018) and son, Myron (2020). Through it all, she lived by her motto: "The most important thing in life is to be kind to one another."
She found her greatest happiness in her family - spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In the later years, she also enjoyed the companionship of her dear friend, Johnny Dudney, while living at Sterling Court Assisted Living.
She is survived by two of her children, Dena (Jerry) Johnson, and Kent (Marilyn) Jacobsen, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, who will always carry her love and example in their hearts.
A viewing for Frieda will be held in the Chapel at Camp Williams near Lehi, Utah, on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. Graveside services follow, with interment beside her eternal companion, Melvin, at Camp Williams.
Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. 435-673-2454.
Friends and family are invited to sign Frieda's online guestbook at www.SpilsburyMortuary.com
