Gary Lee Shockley, age 77, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, in St. George, Utah, due to respiratory complications and infection.
Gary was born on June 30, 1948, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to William Harold Shockley and Mahana James Kennedy. He graduated from Cheyenne East High School. He married Elizabeth "Beth" Perry in Cheyenne, and together they had two sons. During that time, they traveled throughout the state of Wyoming before settling in Jackson, where Gary worked at KSGT radio. He later married Paula Dormaday in Rexburg, Idaho, and together they raised their son, Levi.
Throughout his life, Gary built a career as a radio announcer and sports broadcaster, where he truly flourished. He was well known as the "Voice of the Jackson Broncs" and later the "Voice of the Highland Rams" in Pocatello, Idaho. His passion for sports extended beyond his career, as he was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, Denver Broncos, Wyoming Cowboys, and Oklahoma Sooners.
Outside of work, Gary enjoyed spending time outdoors, playing cards, reading, watching westerns, and sharing conversations over a cup of coffee. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends.
Gary was known for his gift of gab, his sense of humor, and his dedication to community service, especially his involvement in youth activities. He had a way of connecting with people and leaving a lasting impression on those around him.
He is survived by his sons, Sean and his wife, Carrie, Dusty and his wife, Lori, and Levi and his wife, Kellie; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Vince; and his younger brother, Timothy James.
A memorial service was held on April 4, 2026, in St. George, Utah.
Gary will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
