George Walton

Cedar City, Utah. George Gary Walton joined the great bowling tournament in the sky on October 1, just days after his 90th birthday. He was born in Salt Lake City to George Snarr Walton and Grace Louise Heesch on September 24, 1935.

Gary joined the U. S. Navy at a young age and served during the Korean War. During his 12 years in the Navy, he studied at Compton Junior College. He married Sharon Zant and together they had five children and were married for 25 years. They later divorced.

Gary provided for his family by working in the family plumbing business. Evenings and weekends were spent boat racing, snowmobiling, playing basketball, tennis, bowling, and golf. As a natural athlete, he was a fierce competitor. He competed and medaled in several Huntsman Senior Games and innumerable bowling tournaments.

He married Sonja Delahoussaye and moved to Santa Clara with her and her three children. They were married until her death in 1997. After her death he relocated to Cedar City.

Gary was generous with his time and talents. For years he volunteered weekly at the Bishop's Storehouse, managing the warehouse. He also served as an ordinance worker at the Cedar City Temple.

He was preceded in death by his son James Walton, son-in-law Staff Sargeant William Daniel Smith, and stepdaughter Paula Delahoussaye.

His children are Robert, Sylva, Lona, James (deceased) and Jozet. His stepchildren are Paula (deceased), Michelle, and Mark. His posterity includes 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends can pay their respects at a viewing on Friday, October 10 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the LDS Rock Chapel at 75 East Center Street in Cedar City. On Saturday morning, October 11, there will be an additional viewing from 10:00-10:45. Funeral services will begin at 11:00. Interment, with military honors, will be held at the Santa Clara Cemetery, 1950 Ancestor Way, at 2:30 p.m.
