Gerald Harvey Gorsegner, 79, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023. He was born September 15, 1944, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington, to Wilda Minetta Loewen and Harvey William Gorsegner. Gerald married Judith Ann Wilson on February 25, 1969, at the Los Angeles Temple. They spent 54 wonderful years together.
Gerald graduated from South Eugene High School in 1963. Afterwards he attended the University of Oregon. He had barely started college when he had left to serve an LDS mission in Belgium. When he returned from his mission, he went back to college at the University of Oregon majoring in French. Then, the draft started heating up and he volunteered to be in the Army in 1968. During this time, he had married his wonderful wife, and they were off to Layton Barracks, Wurzburg Germany. He served for two years.
When his military time was over, he finally finished his bachelor’s at the University of Oregon in 1972. Upon graduation he received a job teaching at Henley High School in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where he taught foreign languages for 31 years. He also taught languages at Oregon Institute of Technology in the evenings. He attained a Master’s Degree in Foreign Languages from Western Washington University while teaching.
Later, he and Judy retired to St. George, Utah. He loved serving others by doing family history, using foreign languages, and participating in American Legion. In 2009, he and his wife began serving a two-year LDS mission in the Dominican Republic Temple. He has made many friends everywhere he went, and he always loved helping people.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Judy Gorsegner, St. George, Utah, his sister, Kathy Jones, St George, Utah, his five children, Jay Gorsegner, Portland Oregon, Jeff Gorsegner, Brighton Colorado, Jennifer Wayman, St. George, Utah, Justin Gorsegner, Springfield, Oregon, Jason Gorsegner, Medford, Oregon, his 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
