Glen Reid Hovey passed from this life on November 12, 2025, in St. George, Utah. He was born December 8, 1941, in St. Louis County, Missouri to Merlin Reid Hovey and Fern Maxine Smith Hovey. He was the oldest of 6 children.
Glen led a very active life of service and adventure which included retiring with the rank of Commander in the US Navy Reserve. He served 26 years including a naval cruise to Vietnam in 1968. Later, he served for 10 years in the Pentagon as part of the chief of Naval Operations staff for wargaming.
Glen served a mission in France for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1961-1964 as a young man. Glen served as a Branch President in France, Rome Italy, and New Jersey. While living in New Jersey, he and Norma served in the Washington D.C. temple. In Salt Lake City, they served a 2 1/2 year Family History/Genealogy Mission in the Joseph Smith Building in Salt Lake City, Utah. Later, in St. George, they served 10 years as missionaries in the Family History Center and subsequently an 18-month Addiction Recovery mission and currently, by assignment, are serving in the Oak Tree Project preparing deceased persons and their families in the United Kingdom for Temple work. Norma will continue this assignment.
Glen received an MBA degree from George Mason University and a Computer Management Masters from American University in Washington D.C.
Glen is predeceased by his only daughter, Noelle Hovey and granddaughter, Lilly and his brother, Steven Hovey. He is survived by a former wife, Suzanne Lawver; mother of sons Richard Hovey and Reid Hovey; his Eternal companion, Norma Gaddy Hovey, stepchildren, Christina Miller, Howard Hood Jr., Jimmy Hood, and Brandee Watkins; 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. Glen is also survived by 4 siblings, Elaine Ellis, Roger Hovey, Ranae Covel and David Hovey.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 22 11:00 - 12:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara Heights Stake Center, 1705 Desert Dawn Drive, Santa Clara, Utah. His Life Celebration will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Interment taking place at the Santa Clara City Cemetery.
