Glen Thompson Sessions, 90, passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2025. He was born in Salt Lake City, UT, on December 31, 1934, to Leroy M. Sessions and Ellen L. Thompson. With a bit of dry humor, Glen often said that everyone in the world celebrated his birthday.
Glen was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School. He graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Utah. He married his sweetheart Elizabeth I. Klemm on June 8, 1956, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Shortly after their marriage, Glen and Beth moved to Los Angeles, CA, where they lived for 10 years. In 1969, they returned to Utah with their two children and settled in Salt Lake City, where they lived until 1990. That year, they moved to Easton, PA, and lived there until 1994. After serving a mission in the Washington D.C. temple presidency, they spent two years traveling the country in their RV before settling in St. George, UT. Glen was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beth, who passed away on May 4, 2023. He missed her dearly and often spoke of her with love and longing.
Glen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy in life was ensuring that Beth and his children were happy and fulfilled. In Beth's final years, Glen devoted himself to her care with unwavering love and dedication. Glen cherished his family and his greatest desire was to see them thrive - happy, educated, and enriched by the world around them. He became not just a grandpa, but also a larger-than-life father figure to many of his grandchildren.
Travel was one of Glen's passions and he loved to share that with his family. Five months before his passing, he took his children and their spouses on an Alaskan cruise, a memory they will treasure forever. When his children were young, he packed the family into the station wagon for a trip up the west coast into Canada. Later, with truck and camper as their transportation, the family journeyed through Alberta, Canada, to destinations like Lake Louise and Calgary. One of the most memorable family trips was a month-long tour of Western Europe where they visited landmarks like the Louvre in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome, Toledo in Spain, and Innsbruck in Austria.
Glen's remarkable wisdom was gained through a life filled with remarkable experience. Following college graduation, he served in the Army Reserve for 6 years. After his active-duty service, he accepted employment with a national accounting firm in Los Angeles, California, where he earned his CPA certificate. He then left public accounting, and his professional career included senior executive roles at companies such as Metropolitan Savings and Loan, Foreign Study League, Pyke Manufacturing, and Country Miss. He taught accounting at Westminster College for 10 years. More importantly to him, he served in many church callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints such as Scout Master, Clerk, Bishop, Stake President, Temple Presidency counselor, director of the Camp Joseph Campground, Patriarch for 13 years, and Sealer for 30 years. One would think that the memories he shared in his waning years would be about his time as a senior leader and all that he accomplished, and yet, what he shared most were moving memories about serving boys as a Scout Master or about working with one person at a time as an ecclesiastical leader. One of his more memorable experiences was working with older scouts to build 15 kayaks, which they used on several kayak trips.
Beyond his leadership roles, he was a man of many talents. He was skilled in construction and built cribs and other furniture for his grandchildren. In retirement, Glen became a master woodcarver creating intricate wooden figurines and adorable Christmas ornaments. He ensured each of his children and grandchildren had several of his custom creations.
Glen is survived by his son Mike Sessions (Nancy), his daughter Sandi Jensen (Jeff), and his sister Renee (Jim) Evanoff. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren - and a great-great-grandchild on the way. He loved his family and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was preceded in death by his wife Beth, his parents, and his sister Lou Jean.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery, Bountiful, Utah.
