Janice Liston Hemingway
Janice was born February 11, 1950, in Provo, Utah to parents Verdin Liston and Marie Hall Liston. After a happy and successful life she passed away at home on May 1, 2026 in St. George, Utah.
She has an identical twin sister who is named Joyce so many of the experiences of her life were had together with her sister. However, we will talk about her individually in this remembrance.
Janice married Bruce V. Sharp in Provo, Utah in 1974 and had 2 sons, Ryan Sharp and Derick Sharp from the marriage. The marriage ended in divorce and Janice later married Delwin R. Hemingway on February 10, 1990, in Salinas, California. Delwin and Janice combined two families with their marriage in 1990. As mentioned, Janice had two sons who were aged 12 and 14 at the time and Delwin had 5 sons and one daughter aged 16, 15, 13, 11, 9 and 6 years old giving the combined family 8 children between the ages of 6 and 16. Needing a bigger house, the entire family moved from Salinas, California 40 miles away to Hollister, California. In Hollister, the family had a large new house and 5 acres of property which gave many opportunities for new adventures.
Janice was always fascinated by art, particularly the old masters. She studied art at Southern Utah State College for 2 years before transferring to Brigham Young University to finish her education. In California, she studied photography at Hartnell College and integrated photography and painting with oils and pastels into a successful business selling many works at galleries in Carmel and Monterey. Janice also learned the art of applying permanent make-up. In her studio "Artistic Permanent Make-Up," she applied permanent make-up for many, many women for over 20 years.
Janice was an excellent mother teaching her children and stepchildren true principles. All 8 of the children served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 7 of the 8 children graduated from college and three of them went on to receive doctor's degree-Medical Doctor, Doctor of Dentistry and Juris Doctor.
Janice and Delwin purchased a home here in St. George, Utah and moved here 6 years ago to retire and travel. Delwin had practiced dentistry in Monterey County, California for 45 years prior to moving here to Utah. Upon arrival in St. George, Janice was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer and given 3 months to live. However, saying "No one is going to tell me when my life will end," she found oncologist Lincoln Nadauld, MD who treated her with gene therapy and she lived another 5 1/2 years. We are all grateful for the kindness and wisdom of Dr. Nadauld who helped Janice enjoy life 5+ years longer.
Janice and Delwin have 23 living grandchildren who live in Utah, Texas, California and Hawaii.
She is survived by husband of 36 years Delwin R, Hemingway, DDS who lives in St. George. Her children and step children include: Brandon J. Hemingway, JD, Houston, Texas; Thomas J Hemingway, MD (Spouse Brooke), Kilauea, Hawaii; Ryan Sharp (Spouse Bonnie), Discovery Bay, California; Lisa Hunt (Spouse Joshua)Draper, Utah, Derick Sharp (Spouse Corina) Salt Lake City, Utah; Ian J.
