Jeannine C Brown

Jeannine C. Brown, 95, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Jeannine was born November 2, 1928, in Alton, Utah, to Napoleon Roundy and Zelpha Allen Roundy. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and a firm knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

She grew up in Alton, Utah, attending Alton school for 6 years before moving on to junior high and high school in Orderville, Utah. She then attended Dixie Jr College in St. George, marrying, and starting a family while still attending college classes. She graduated from College of Southern Utah in Cedar City, with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Jeannine then moved, with her four children, to Fredonia, Arizona, where she taught elementary school for 8 years. In 1968, she moved her family, with now 7 children, to Henderson, Nevada, where she taught school for 13 years, spending several summers in Flagstaff, Arizona, furthering her education by earning a master’s degree in art from NAU. She moved to Mesquite, Nevada in 1981, where she continued her teaching career at Virgin Valley Elementary School. In 1987, she bought a house next door to her mother and father, on 300 South, in St. George and continued teaching in Mesquite, making the daily commute to and from Mesquite until she retired from teaching in 1993.

After retiring, Jeannine volunteered at IHC as a “Pink Lady,” where her favorite duty was dressing and preparing precious newborn babies for their first photo opportunities. Jeannine loved reading, writing and poetry. She was active in the Heritage Writer’s Guild, the Utah Poetry Society, Dixie Writer’s Guild, and the Circle of Friends group for many years. She always had a love for learning and, along with her sister LaVere, attended BYU Education Week several times and took Continuing Education classes at Dixie College. The artistic muse played an active part in Jeannine’s life. She baked beautiful wedding cakes, created some remarkable paintings, skillfully sewed clothing for her family, and wrote both prose and poetry. She demonstrated amazing skill in home improvement projects, both designing and carrying through to the finished project. Jeannine found her way of relaxing by doing crossword, cryptoquote, Sudoku puzzles, and playing Scrabble with her family. She loved music and singing, learned to play saxophone, piano and guitar, and even composed some of her own music.

She is survived by her children: Michael (Susan) Campbell, currently serving a mission in Cleveland, Ohio; Steven (Connie) Campbell of Henderson, NV; Diane Downing of Washington, UT; Sandra (Chad) Martin of St. George, UT; Traci Bills and Todd (Marchelle) Brown, of Washington, UT; 30 grandchildren; 74 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, 6 siblings, and 2 daughters: Kristine Toadachenie and Mary Jo Barton.
