John Walter Arlidge passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the age of 92. John was born February 4, 1933 in Rochester, New York to Harold Wesley and Grace Edith Elizabeth Victoria( Kempshall) Arlidge. John had three brothers, Harold Wesley, John Walter, and Donald Warren, and a sister Linda Winifred Van Duyn.
John spent his childhood in Rochester, New York until the family moved to California in 1945. Over the next five years the family moved several times around the Southern California Area where John attended twelve different High Schools.
John turned 18 on February 4, 1951, enlisted in the Marine Corps that day, and served in Korea until his discharge on February 1, 1954. John then enrolled at Valley Jr. College where he met Sandra Marie Koswar in a Chemistry Lab. Sandy and John were married on February 4, 1955, which was also John's birthday. Their oldest boy, William (Jimmy) was born that year and their second son, Edward John (EJ) was born four years later.
John served as a Deputy Sheriff for LA County, working at both minimum and maximum security units at the county jail. In 1961 John applied to the City of Los Angeles for employment where he accepted the job of Communications Engineer for the City of Los Angeles and later went to work for the Department of Water and Power as an assistant engineer.
In 1974 the family moved to Las Vegas where John worked for Nevada Power for 31 years. John and Sandy also lived in Poland for three years where John was principal advisor to the Polish Government helping with privatization of Utilities.
John and Sandy relocated to St. George, in 2005 to be closer to their son EJ.
John's son Jimmy passed away in 1986. His wife Sandy passed away in 2009 and his son EJ passed away in 2017. John has missed his family very much over the last few years and we know he is now happy to be reunited with them.
John is survived by granddaughter, Elizabeth (Lisa) and great-granddaughter, Jade of Pennsylvania, also nieces and nephews in different parts of the country. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sister, wife Sandy, and sons Jimmy and EJ.
John was always grateful to his friends and neighbors who have been so good to him over the years.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. George City Cemetery.
