Joshua Alan Horspool
April 5, 1977 — March 31, 2022
Josh was born April 5, 1977, to Kent Alan and Linda K. (Hocking) Horspool in Ogden, Utah. He passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 31, 2022, from a ruptured aortic dissection (we know it was because his heart was too dang big).
Josh was raised in Hooper, Utah and graduated from Roy High School. He moved to Washington, Utah where he met the love of his life, Mishaun Staheli. Josh and Mishaun were married on September 20, 1997. His greatest joy was making sure Mishaun and their four children, Addison, Carson, Boston, and Daytona were always taken care of. He loved them with his whole heart (remember it was BIG) and would do anything for them. His joy in life was to see them smile! He truly adored and loved his wife and kids very much.
Growing up he enjoyed playing golf and was a goalie for the Golden Spike Hockey League. He enjoyed ALL sports, and LOVED watching his children play basketball, softball, and run/throw track. Even if their kids’ teams weren’t participating, you could always spot Josh and Mishaun on the front row. He enjoyed all kinds of music, something he passed on to his kids. Most of the time you could hear him from a few blocks away playing the drums to his favorite songs (but only if Mishaun was at work).
He worked in construction for several years with RTO engineering where he loved playing in the dirt. At age 31 Josh attended Dixie State University and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Marketing Proficiency.
For 15 plus years Josh volunteered his time on the Washington Little League Board or jumped in as coach for softball when needed. He loved sports so much that he wanted every player to have the best experience and love it as much as he did. Winning was never a priority, it was about teaching and influencing players for good. You could always find him sitting next to Mishaun cheering on their kids or favorite team, (we all know it was to keep her out of trouble with the officials). He wasn’t above entertaining the fans while helping the refs with missed calls either. We’ve been told, people intentionally sit across the gym so they can watch the free entertainment.
He and Mishaun recently became the owners of MVP Sports in Spanish Fork, Utah. Josh supplied anything sports, AND his positive attitude to teams and coaches all over Utah. He was not just a salesman, but a friend to all the coaches and players. That’s why people loved doing business with him!
A friend said that Josh could always take a bad situation and turn it into a good one and have everyone laughing in the end.
He loved entertaining his family, especially his wife and kids. It was impossible to be around him without laughing and joining in on the fun. Josh's smile, laughter and wit will be missed by all.
Josh is survived by his wife Mishaun and their four children, Addison Jayde, Carson Franklin (Stefanie), Boston Kent, Daytona MeKay, and their fur babies, Ahsoka, Brewster, Chomp, Loki, Cholla, Max, and Kash (his favorite). His parents Kent and Linda Horspool, brother Jason (Kim) Horspool, and sister Jana (Rowdy) Olds. In-laws Howard and Mary Esther Putnam, five brothers in law, one sister-in-law and many, many nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Jennifer Horspool, and his father-in-law Franklin H. Staheli. He was also preceded in death by his dogs (or babies as he called them), Zeus, Punkin, Chug, Izzy, Alfie, and Harley.
A Viewing will be held Monday, April 11th at Spilsbury Mortuary from 5:00-8:00 pm. 110 South Bluff Street, St. George. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 12th at 11:00 am at the Washington City Cemetery. 300 Park View Dr. A Celebration of Life will also be held Tuesday, April 12th in the barn at Staheli Family Farm. 3400 S Washington Fields Rd. We plan to start celebrating around 5:00 pm JST (Josh Standard Time), until we are too tired to celebrate anymore.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you donate through Venmo @Josh-MVP, where they will make donations to high school sports teams, which was something Josh was very passionate about.
