jj Olson

Judy Anne “jj” Mann Johnson Olson passed away peacefully at home in St. George, UT, on July 28, 2025, surrounded by her devoted children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—and her Sweetheart, Carl Olson. Just short of two years ago, she celebrated her glamorous 80th birthday—an unforgettable evening where her family honored her love, elegance, and vibrant spirit.

Born in 1943 in American Fork, Utah, to Jasper Oscar and Anna Mann, jj spent most of her childhood in Provo, UT. She was a precocious and adventurous child, brilliant student, and a popular friend who left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. From an early age, she embraced her role as a loving and devoted aunt, creating bonds that remained strong throughout her life. Her vivacious and adventurous personality made “Aunt j” unforgettable.

In 1962, she married Larry K. Johnson, and together they welcomed two beautiful daughters, Traci Kae and Tawni Lee, who adored her. Though that chapter of her life later came to a close, jj’s story of love continued. In 1974, she married the love of her life, Carl Olson. For over five decades, Carl was her greatest love, best friend, and true partner in life. He embraced Traci and Tawni as his own and lovingly brought MeLisa and Devin into the family, where they were welcomed with open arms and hearts. Together, they built a life grounded in unconditional love, laughter, and family. On March 15, 2024, surrounded by those they loved most, jj and Carl joyfully celebrated 50 years of marriage.

With a quick wit and a creative spark, jj built a colorful career that reflected her passion for style and family. She worked for companies like Mattel Toys, L’eggs, and Sears Furniture—but her true calling emerged as a gifted fashion commentator, independent show producer, and business owner. She brought the runway to life, producing and hosting fashion/bridal and market shows throughout the area. Known for her effortless style and dazzling live narration—always unscripted—jj captivated audiences with her magnetic charm, voice, and humor. She also worked in real estate and optical lens industries.

jj is survived by her devoted husband, Carl E. Olson; her children: Traci Fitzgerald, Tawni (Troy) Pearmain, MeLisa (Anthony) DeSilva, and Devin (Tanya) Olson; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter—all of whom adored their beloved “Grammi j.” She is also survived by her sisters, Pat (Steve) Christensen and Diona (Rainer) Hechtle, and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their “Aunt j.”

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Eloise (Keith) Merryweather, Keldon (Lee Ann) Mann, Charles E. (Jeanne) Mann, and LaVoy Mann.

jj had a deep love for travel and the joy of sharing magical places with the people she loved. Hawaii was her home away from home—where she found peace, beauty, and happiness. She was also captivated by the wonder of Disneyland and the sparkle and sophistication of New York City. These favorite destinations became treasured traditions as she introduced countless friends and family to their charm. Over time, many grew to love them as deeply as she did—forever linking those places with the unforgettable memories they made together with jj.

jj’s life was defined by love, grace, unforgettable style, and family. Her family was her heart, and in her final moments, she was surrounded by her legacy—her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—leaving this life just as she lived it: with elegance, warmth, and love—to live among the stars.

A celebration of jj’s life will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N University Ave, Provo, Utah. Viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by an open-mic celebration at 12:30 p.m. to honor her remarkable life, wisdom, and experiences. A graveside toast —with jj’s signature flair—will conclude the tribute to this extraordinary woman. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, 500 North Main Street, Pleasant Grove, Utah.

In addition, a Celebration of Life Cocktail Party will be held in St. George, Utah, on November 11, 2025 — what would have been her 82nd birthday. Friends and family are also invited to attend this special gathering.
