June M Herpel

October 3, 1939 — January 18, 2023

June M. Herpel, of Pine Valley, went into eternity on January 18, 2023.
June was born on October 3, 1939, in Aurora, Illinois, to Otto and Madeline Stewart. At four years old, the Stewart family moved to the Los Angeles area for better opportunities.
Otto opened a machinery sales business in the early 1950’s in the city of Bell. June grew up there, excelling in many activities, including being a cheerleader at Bell High School. June also became a skilled equestrian during that period.
While still in high school, she met a handsome sailor from Michigan named Robert Herpel. Shortly after graduation, June and Bob were married on July 20, 1957, and were together for 65 years, until her death.
June and Bob had four children: Richard (Jodie), 64, Mark (Kalynn), 62, James (Stacey), 58, Elizabeth Brush (Brandon), 48.
June and Bob settled into Southern California, owned a home in Artesia, then Corona. Bob had a highly successful position at North American Rockwell in Downey, developing the space program.
In 1970, the Herpels decided to make a life change and moved to the St. George area.
They owned several homes in Washington, Utah, until they built a home in Pine Valley around 1996, with major help from Richard, Brandon, and many others.
Since moving to Utah, Bob has owned several businesses, most recently Utah Heritage Realty. June was a stay-at-home mom while the kids were growing up. After they were grown, she started working at various jobs, mostly mixed office and retail.
June’s primary interests were her faith, family, and lifelong learning. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since early adulthood. She was involved in many activities, both in the church and elsewhere. June was a gifted pianist, a skill she inherited from her mother. She played for various church services throughout her life. She was an avid reader and was always very knowledgeable about current affairs and history.
June Herpel leaves behind her husband, Bob, her four children and their spouses, sixteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughters Rachel Miller and Mindi Jo Herpel.
