Kaye Seegmiller Wade, 87, passed away June 20, 2023, in St. George, Utah. She was born March 28, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to West W. Seegmiller and Elsie Milda Hachmeister. She married James LaVar Wade on September 8, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple.
Kaye spent her younger years in Salt Lake City, Utah. She and her sister would ride the bus wherever they wanted to go around the city at a very young age. Often, they would go downtown to visit their mother at the Paris Beauty Salon where she worked. Together they would walk to church, the movies, and when they heard a train coming, they would run to the railroad tracks where the men in the caboose would throw candy to them.
When she was 10 years old, the family moved to Cedar City, Utah. She completed her schooling through the 11th grade at Cedar High School. Most of her friends were a year older, so when they graduated, she didn’t want to go back to school. She married Dad at what would have been the beginning of her Senior year. They lived in Cedar City for the first few years of their marriage. She moved with Dad to many different construction jobs around Utah and Nevada until they had 3 kids in school, she then put her foot down about moving so they ended up staying in Las Vegas for the next 26 years. They moved to St. George, Utah, after Dad retired and have lived there for 33 years.
Mom spent a lot of time with her mother in the Beauty Shop that was in their home. She became very good and loved doing hair. Our kitchen was often turned into a salon where she did hair for friends and family.
Mom loved singing in the choir, square dancing, and riding horses. She went with her family and competed in the Gymkhanas when she was in her 60’s, riding Kayla Bar, who only bucked her off a time or two.
Mom was a caretaker, whether it was animals or someone down on their luck. She brought many into our home until they could get back on their feet. She cared for both of our grandmothers in her home until their passing. She was a special influence in the lives of many of our friends and family.
Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations.
Mom was a great support to Dad on the ranch. She did it all, rode horses, drove trucks, hauled cattle, cooked meals, camped out, and did whatever was needed. She traveled thousands of miles supporting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sports, rodeos and other activities. There is no other place she would have rather been than supporting her family.
She is survived by her sweetheart of almost 70 years, LaVar, St. George, Utah; her children Gary LaVar (Roxie), Alamo, Nevada; Scott S (Jolynn), Corvallis, Oregon; Connie Bundy, St. George, Utah; Sheila Kaye (Derek) Southwick, St. George, Utah; daughter-in-law, Dawn Wade, Hiko, Nevada; sister, Jaine Adams Crane. 18 Grandchildren, 42 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Son, Kelly Steven Wade; Grandson, Walter Lane Burgess; Great-granddaughter, Allison Anne Wade; son-in-law, Eddie Marion Bundy, brothers-in-law, Garry Boyd Adams and Robert Lovell Crane.
