Lawrence Roy Reid, age 84, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He was born on February 7, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Roy and Melba Reid. He married Carol Ann Syphus on June 18, 1965, in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Lawrence, more commonly known as Larry, grew up in Ephraim, Utah, where a strong work ethic was instilled in him at a very young age. He worked in the family grocery store and on the family farm, where he was driving a tractor at just seven years old. He attended Manti High School, graduating in 1958, and later joined the Army Reserves. Larry often shared small glimpses of his early life working, and he truly never stopped working until the very end. It was simply part of who he was.

Larry served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hong Kong, and he delighted in surprising people by speaking Cantonese, especially in Asian restaurants. After his mission, he attended Snow College, where he received an Associate's degree. He then completed a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the University of Utah. While working and attending college in Salt Lake City, he met Carol by frequently stopping by her workplace on his lunch breaks to order a pineapple milkshake. They were married for over 60 years.

Larry worked many years as a chemist and became the Vice President of Rocky Mountain Geochemical in Salt Lake City. In 1978, he started his business Weather Master Products, in Salt Lake City. In 1980, the family moved to St. George, Utah. Larry commuted to Salt Lake City for several years before selling his Salt Lake business and re-starting it as Weather Master in St. George, UT. Through hard work, integrity, and an unfailing smile, Larry provided a wonderful life for his family of seven.

Larry was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including as Bishop of the Pine View Ward and Cotton Acres Ward, as well as serving as a transient Bishop and Branch President. He was also a devoted home teacher and minister, taking great care in these assignments and sincerely loving those he served. Larry and Carol served a senior mission together in Pennsylvania, an experience they deeply cherished. They found great meaning in serving together and valued their shared faith throughout their marriage.

Larry loved fishing, particularly at Enterprise Reservoir, and spending time outdoors with those he loved. Larry and Carol built a small camping retreat on property in Kolob, Utah, which became a treasured place for time with each other, their children, and grandchildren. In his final year, Larry discovered a passion for rock hounding. He set up a workshop at home filled with saws, polishers, and tools that reflected his geochemical roots. Through this hobby, he spent meaningful time with his grandchildren and others as his health declined. He was still working (those rocks needed to be cut and polished!), still creating, still finding joy, and still making lasting memories with his family.

Larry was unfailingly kind, quick to make others laugh, and never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was an involved and attentive father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His faith guided the way he lived, and he always sought to live the principles of his faith in his daily life.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Reid, of St. George, Utah; and by his five children: Janet Reid of St. George, UT; Michael Lawrence Reid (Shauna) of Dillon, MT; David Larry Reid (Tiffany) of Vancouver, WA; Laura Ann Reid of Sandy, UT; and Robyn Lindholm (Kevin) of Spanish Fork, UT.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kyler Tolleson, Casey Tolleson, Danielle Tolleson, Mikayla Bybee (Taylor), Logan Reid (Jillian), Nate Reid (Emily), Jessica Taylor (Ben), Hayden Reid, Alex Reid, Natalie Reid, Ethan Collier, Kimberly Lindholm, Rachel Lindholm, Brian Lindholm (Bree), and Justin Lindholm. He is also survived by 14 (soon to be 17) great-grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his sisters, Vickie Olsen of Manti, UT, and Gayle Nielson of Hurricane, UT; and his brother Doug Reid of Fillmore, UT. He was preceded in death by his sister Charlene Deeben, and his parents Roy and Melba Reid.
