Mabel Holt

ST. GEORGE - Mabel Perkins Wilcock Holt, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home on June 26, 2025. She was born January 28, 1934 in Blanding, Utah to Rexford and Alta Rowley Perkins. She was the second of two daughters. Her older sister, Daphne Rae, passed away as a baby seven years before Mabel was born, so Mabel was raised as an only child. After her parents divorced, Mabel and her mother lived in several different communities as Alta worked hard to provide for them both. Mabel was elated to finally have a father when her mom married Delbert Wilcock in the Manti Temple and she was sealed to them both. Sadly, a few short years later Delbert died suddenly and Mabel and her mom were on their own once again, moving a few more times, until they moved to St. George while Mabel was finishing high school.

She met Jack Holt at a St. George youth dance and they were married on April 12, 1952 in the St. George Temple. They had three children: Valerie, Ken, and Diane. Mabel and Jack ran the family owned Twin Oaks Motel, and together in 1956 they literally built their own home on 600 South in St. George. Throughout their marriage, Mabel continued to assist in Jack's drywall business by keeping the books and helping with some of the jobs. Jack wouldn't take a job in a home that was being lived in unless he was sure that Mabel could be there with him to ensure he didn't leave a mess for the homeowner. Although her favorite job was homemaker, Mabel also found time to work at Evelyn's Dress Shop for many years. For most of her life in St. George Mabel belonged to a women's club called the Palettes. These women and their husbands became dear, lifelong friends to Jack and Mabel and she tried to keep in touch with those that still remain.

Mabel was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society programs. She had a beautiful alto voice and sang in the ward choir, led the singing in Primary for many years and served as ward chorister. She also sang for years with a popular local singing group called the Crescendos. Mabel loved spending time playing her organ and piano as well. She supported all her grandkids by attending every performance, often going multiple nights, and would love to tell you about each one and their accomplishments.

Mabel is survived by her children; Valerie (Neal) Pack, Ken Holt, Diane (Jerry) Amundsen, 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, and older sister Daphne Rae.
