It is with deepest sorrow and huge holes in our hearts that we announce the unexpected death of our son, Marcus Bryce Barney, 34 years old, who passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Marcus was born on Sunday, August 1, 1982 in Fayetteville, NC to parents, Kevin and Kitty Barney. Marcus came into this life ten weeks early weighing 4 pounds 6 oz. And he left this life way too early. Marcus graduated from Clearfield High School in Utah, May of 2000. While attending high school he also attended Davis Technical College (DATC) where he studied plumbing. After graduating he worked for a few years as a plumber. He later went to work for Autoliv as a supervisor. He loved his time working at Autoliv. Marcus was a very hard worker and a true people person and friend. He always found the best in everyone and had a heart full of love and gratitude.
In his youth, Marcus had the opportunity to live in North Carolina, Montana, Germany, and Utah. While living in Germany he traveled throughout Europe with his family. He was such a joy to be with. He was very loving, kind, and compassionate. He accepted everyone. He was always making those around him laugh as he had a great sense of humor. He had the most beautiful eyes that shined when he smiled, shiny and soft dark brown hair, and a sweet smile with the cutest dimples. He loved to eat. He loved all foods, except for chocolate. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because he loved all of the yummy food and spending quality time with his family. He looked forward to eating the leftovers the days following the Thanksgiving feast.
He had the most amazing relationship with his younger sister, Ashley. They were so very close and rarely had disagreements. As children they would spend many hours together. He was so easy going and a great sport. He would play whatever games Ashley wanted to play to include paper dolls. In his youth he was involved in soccer, baseball, and basketball. As a teenager he would spend many hours in his driveway, playing basketball with his dad, sister, and friends. Or you could find them in the backyard jumping on the trampoline. Marcus loved music. In Jr. High he played the viola in the school orchestra and in high school Marcus played percussion in the school band. Marcus loved all things outdoors. He especially enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, bike riding, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, skiing, and snowboarding. One of his favorite places to camp at was Bryce Canyon which his parents gave as his middle name after their meeting in Bryce Canyon. As a teenager he loved attending and participating in the Boy Scouts of America, where he earned many merit badges. He loved watching NBA basketball and NFL football. He always cheered for the North Carolina Charlotte Hornets, of course being born in North Carolina and the Philadelphia Eagles. He often wore both their logos.
Marcus was active and involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was baptized at the age of eight. Marcus married in 2003 and was later sealed to his spouse in 2007 in the Newport Beach California Temple. His son Kyle was born on Father's Day in 2006. Marcus absolutely loved being a dad. Marcus and his former spouse were later divorced but he continued to see his son weekly. Kyle brought such joy to Marcus' life. He loved taking him to the park, camping and fishing. He enjoyed taking Kyle to St. George with him to visit his parents. He always seemed relaxed and at peace to have time away from work and life where he could again be outdoors swimming and hiking along with his son and his parents.
Marcus is survived by his son Kyle, who he absolutely adores and is the love and light of his life. His parents who love him fiercely, Kevin and Kitty Barney. His sister, his lifelong friend, and advocate, Ashley Flinders, her husband Nate and their two children. His grandmother, Leonora Hoyt, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who love him and will miss him dearly.
Marcus is now at peace with our Savior, Jesus Christ and will be laid to rest at the Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George, Utah on Thursday, March 23, 2017 with graveside services.
