Margaret Jean (Gibson) Bullard

Margaret Jean (Gibson) Bullard, 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in St. George Regional Hospital on January 3, 2024.

Margaret Jean Gibson was born on April 18, 1942, in Park City, Utah. She was the daughter of Andrew Gibson and Priscilla Taylor (Gibson). She married Sharon “Butch” Bullard on June 22, 1962. They had four children and were married for 57 years.

Margaret and Butch lived and worked in Hanksville, Utah, where she raised her four children, served in many local positions to include the Wayne County School Board while her children were in school. Margaret and Butch spent most of their summers working at Butch’s gold mine in Eastern Oregon. When the kids were finished in school, Margaret and Butch moved to Midvale, Utah, later to Lehi, Utah, Leeds, Washington, and finally St. George, Utah.

Margaret loved her family; her kids and grandkids were her most prized possession. She spent many years with Butch teaching their kids and grandkids how to waterski at Lake Powell. She loved playing golf, cards, and board games. She was an avid reader and a devout Utah Jazz fan. She loved to travel and went to many locations to include Scotland, England, France, Italy, Greece, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Panama. She rode horses and supported her sons in both wrestling and rodeo. She loved her many dogs Muggs, Missy, and especially Wilson. During her lifetime Margaret accomplished many things. She had her private pilot license and would fly her kids and grandkids many places. She held her CDL and drove the Hanksville school bus. She worked at the BLM in Hanksville for many years, and later worked for Northwest Pipeline and later in life she worked as an accountant at Sun River and for several local CPA offices in St. George. She continued to do taxes until the end. She experienced tremendous heartbreak and hardships throughout her life but lived each day with strength and a beautiful smile. She made many friends everywhere she lived and found joy spending time with all.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Lori (Joe) Jensen; her son, Dwight (Trulee Ann) Bullard; and daughter-in-law, Carol (Jake) Bullard. She has 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; brother, LeRoy; sisters Donna, Mary Leah; husband, Butch; daughter, Shelly; and son, Jake.

Her family would like to thank the St. George Regional Hospital staff, nurses, and doctors.

The funeral services will be held on January 9th at 1:00 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary in St. George. A visitation will be held on the 8th of January from 6-7 pm and, prior to services, on Tuesday from 12-1 pm.
