Olaerte Arruda, beloved by family and friends as Olley, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on February 10, 2026. Born on May 5, 1937, in Brazil, Olley lived a full and vibrant life marked by adventure, hard work, and deep love for those around him. After serving a dedicated work construction mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his home country, he immigrated to the United States in his mid-20s, seeking new opportunities and building a life of purpose and achievement.

It was in America that Olley met the love of his life, Berdene Brown. Their enduring partnership blossomed into a beautiful marriage of 58 years, filled with shared joys, mutual support, and unwavering devotion.

A talented and driven individual, Olley became a successful business owner, founding and operating his own engineering company where his expertise and leadership created lasting impact.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Olley was a man of many passions. As a private pilot, he soared across the skies, flying throughout the country and making cherished return trips to his homeland in Brazil. His adventurous spirit also shone through in his love of the open road-whether cruising down the gorge in one of his beloved convertible sports cars or, earlier in life, embracing the thrill of motorcycle riding.

Olley was a true renaissance man at heart. He was an exceptional chef who delighted in cooking elaborate meals and entertaining friends and family, turning every gathering into a warm celebration. His great sense of humor brought laughter wherever he went, and his beautiful singing voice filled rooms with joy and often led spontaneous songs that touched everyone who heard him.

Olley is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Berdene Brown Arruda; his sons, Tony Arruda (Moana), Carlos Arruda, his special daughter, Aline Memmott (Ben) and several beloved grandchildren who were the light of his life and a brother Zeca. He's preceded in death by his parents, Benedioto Augusto Arruda, Augusta Catanelli Arruda, and two brothers and two sisters. He leaves behind a legacy of zest for living, generosity, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Olley's memory by sharing a meal with loved ones, taking a scenic drive, or simply lifting your voice in song. Olley lived zealously, loved deeply, and will be profoundly missed. May his spirit continue to soar.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 14th at the Sky Mountain 4th Ward, 320 N 3400 W. Hurricane, Utah. A viewing will be at 10:00am with the funeral service at 11:00am. Graveside service will be held at the Hurricane Cemetery.
