Paula A. Dominguez, 91, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on March 6, 2026. She was born October 5, 1934, in La Feria, Texas, to Marcos Noyola and Margarita Silva.
She grew up in South Texas as a migrant worker, following the seasons of the crops. On December 29, 1957, she married Conrado Dominguez in a small church in La Feria, Texas, where the two had grown up together. It was the same town where their son and daughter were born. In 1963, they made the decision to pack up their small family and move to St. George, Utah.
She took on several odd jobs such as sewing tents, cleaning homes, plucking turkeys, waiting tables at Dick's Cafe, and cooking at the Desert Kitchen. After trying her home cooking, Desert Kitchen wanted to showcase her food and run it as a special once a week. It was a hit and led to her opening her own restaurant, Paula's Mexican Food, in November of 1974. Her restaurant is still ran by family and remains a staple for locals.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, riding the countryside with her husband on his motorcycle, and traveling with her girlfriends. She loved her community in Southern Utah and served with the St. George Lions Club and the St. George Elks alongside her husband.
She is survived by her children, Joey Dominguez (Clifford Kindred) and Ila Edwards (Rick Edwards); her grandchildren, Brogan Dominguez (Mary Ann Dominguez), Amanda Merrill (Jeremy Merrill), and CJ Skinner; as well as greatgrandchildren.
Paula will be remembered for her warmth, her hard work, and the food that brought family, friends, and the community together.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, March 11, from 5-7 p.m., and Thursday, March 12, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. all held at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah. Interment will take place at Tonaquint Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah, (435) 673-2454.
