Ralph Carter Lamoreaux passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2025, in St. George, Utah, after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by those who loved him.
Ralph was the first child of Orval Archie Lamoreaux and Beatrice Carter Lamoreaux. He was born in Paragonah and grew up in St. George, Utah. He was educated, lived, and worked in St. George his entire life.
He dated and courted Janice Empey, and then was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War conflict, 1951-1953. He returned home and they continued dating and were married on April 28, 1954, in the St. George Temple. He worked at the Liberty Café and Big Hand Café. He then started working with his Uncle Howard in the title business and spent the next 30 years working in the old pioneer courthouse and private title companies, gaining vast knowledge of every inch of Washington County and the surrounding areas. He loved and continually studied the history and beginnings of the St. George area. He also worked briefly in the real estate field as well.
During his life, he didn't travel much and didn't like to go too far from home. He liked to be "home by sundown." He enjoyed metal detecting, fishing, hunting, fly tying, and gardening. His flower and vegetable gardens were very important to him. He was still gardening up until the time of his death. He was a builder of many things: playhouses, treehouses, garden boxes, and more than anything, he worked to build and shape character, integrity, honesty and unconditional love, through example, by teaching these traits to his children, which will go on for generations.
He was a self-taught, intelligent man, who continued to seek knowledge throughout his life. Many came to him for advice and counsel because of his wisdom and common sense which he offered only when asked. He taught by example through his selfless service, by caring for Janice full time. She was his main focus. Their story is a love story for the ages.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Janice, and their six children: Kevin Lamoreaux, Brent (Susan) Lamoreaux, Julie (Dan) Garner, Lisa (Blair) Osborn, Darren (Belinda) Lamoreaux, and Melanie (Darren) Hamblin. He is also survived by his sister Carole Jensen, of Kanosh, Utah as well as his sister in law, ArJean Lamoreaux, of Parowan, Utah; sister in law, LaWanna (Gene, deceased); and sister in law, Carla Jean (George) Christensen.
He is blessed to be survived by 27 grandchildren, and 58 great-grandchildren, whom he loved and adored, and was able to see often. He had such a connection with little children. Seeing and visiting with his posterity was among his most treasured times.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother, Bruce Lamoreaux, Brother Paul Lamoreaux, Sister, Margene (Nils) Bayles, Sister Joy (Clint) Anderson.
A very sincere thank you to the skilled professional at St. George Regional Hospital, Pathway Hospice, especially Tamsy and Kaylie, who showed amazing love and dignified professionalism in caring for our dad.
