Roy Laub

Roy Laub, age 74, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly into the arms of his Heavenly Father on October 19th. Roy was known for his warmth, generosity, and loving nature.

Roy was born on July 12, 1951, at the old McGregor Hospital in St. George, Utah, to Clarence Clark Laub and Dixie Shamo Laub Froman. He spent most of his life in the St. George area, living just a few blocks from many of his relatives. In his youth, he also lived for a few years in Nevada and California. He graduated from Dixie High School in 1969.

On March 26, 1975, Roy married the love of his life, Lyla Joyce Boyer, in Manti, Utah. Since the St. George Temple was closed for cleaning, they held their ceremony at the Manti Temple instead. Their return trip to St. George that night became their first adventure as newlyweds, as a heavy snowstorm nearly kept them from making it home for their wedding reception. In March 2025, Roy and Lyla celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Roy was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in the Gulf States Mission, covering Louisiana and Mississippi, and returned home in 1972. Throughout his life, Roy held many church callings, including serving on the High Council and as Bishop of the Middleton Ward.

Roy held many different jobs throughout his life. Before marrying Lyla, he worked for the City of St. George garbage department, where he liked to say he was a "G-man." Over the years, Roy delivered furniture, repaired refrigerators, installed drapes and blinds, and ran a carpet store with Lyla for several years. Together, they also managed all the movie theaters in town, forming lifelong friendships with many employees. For the last 40 years of his career, Roy worked in telecommunications, spending 30 years at AWI Networks until the company was sold in 2020, when he retired.

Roy was a jokester and loved making his friends and family laugh. He was always quick with a funny story or a good "Dad joke". His children would often buy him shirts with funny logos, and he wore them with pride. While he didn't have many hobbies, he loved computers. He was self-taught and enjoyed using his knowledge to help friends and family with computer issues.

Above all, Roy was a devoted and loving father and grandfather. He and Lyla cherished their family and opened their hearts and home to many, including nieces and foster children. Roy was especially proud of his role as a grandfather. Roy and Lyla also welcomed a bonus son, Brian Seegmiller, and a bonus daughter, Sarah Redd, into their home and dedicated several years to foster care, providing love and support to many children.

Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Lyla Joyce Boyer Laub; his children, Daniel (Nicole), Jeffrey (Jennifer), and Randall (Melanie); his niece, Jamie Turner; and his grandchildren: Sean, Austin, Katrina, Jeffrey "Enoch," Garion, Danica, Conner, and William. He is also survived by his brothers, Gary (Jerry) and Gene (Suen), as well as many extended family members, including cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Dixie Laub; his daughter, Krystal; his sister, Judy; and many aunts and uncles.

Roy was a generous man who was always willing to help others in any way he could. He was a devoted and loving husband, a proud father, grandfather, uncle, and a remarkable human being. He will be greatly missed, and we take comfort knowing he is with his Heavenly Father and his daughter, Krystal.
