Spencer Spendlove

August 2, 1944 — January 31, 2022

Spencer Spendlove, age 77, passed peacefully at home on January 31, 2022, to be reunited with his eternal companion, Amelia. He was born on August 2, 1944, in Cedar City, Utah to Reed Spendlove and Thora Lee Spendlove. Spencer was sealed to his wife of 55 years, Amelia Gifford Spendlove, on September 23, 1966, in the St. George, Utah Temple. As he often said, that was the date his life began.

Spencer grew up in Virgin. He loved farming all of his life. He was a mischievous little boy who enjoyed pulling pranks on his mother and sister. Spare time in his teenage years was spent building sand buggies with his cousin Ronald. As a teenager, he began working for his grandfather to purchase land to start his own farm. He farmed with his dad and brother for many years. He married Amelia Gifford and started a family. They raised 2 boys and 3 girls in Virgin. He moved to Texas in 2001 where he farmed and finished raising his family. In 2020 he moved to Apple Valley, Utah, under protest. He loved Texas but loved his family more. His 13 grandchildren were the light of his life.

He taught us to love animals, grow crops, and grow a garden. There was never a year we did not have a garden. His strong work ethic left an impression on generations of his family. He loved God and was an example of Christ-like love. Spencer always loved and cared for everyone he met. He met you once and continued to care for you and wonder how your plans and aspirations went.

Spencer is survived by his five children: Kern Spendlove (Marian) of Karnes City, Texas, Tracie Stewart of Apple Valley, Utah, Jeff Spendlove (Annie) of Apple Valley, Utah, Jill Clawson (Roger) of West Plains, Missouri, and Kaily Pipkin (Rulon) of Cedar City, Utah and thirteen grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Amelia Gifford, his father, Reed Spendlove, and his mother, Thora Lee.
