William Douglas Fullerton, 84, passed away at home, surrounded by his wife, and sons, on February 12, 2026.
He was born on January 17, 1942, in Caliente, Nevada to Walter Murray and Grace Hollinger Fullerton.
He married Sandra Hansen Jones on September 2, 2000, in Toquerville, Utah. They lived in Rocklin, CA.
Doug was raised in Pioche, NV and graduated from Lincoln County High School. He was involved in football, Choir, and the school quartet playing the trumpet. He was Class President and Jr Prom King. He spent his summers working on the Hollinger Ranch in Eagle Valley. He was fond of that time and shared many memories. Doug attended college at Dixie College (St. George, UT) and University of Nevada (Reno) His major was engineering.
Doug started his career as a surveyor for NDOT. He worked throughout the State of Nevada from 1961-1980. Doug then started working for Granite Construction as an estimator and advancing to General Superintendent. Granite took Doug to California where he became Senior Project Manager, managing multiple freeway and bridge projects in the Bay Area, San Diego, and Sacramento. Doug retired from Granite Construction in 2006.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping with family and friends. Doug was an Eagle Scout. As a Scout Master for Troop 35 in Reno, Doug led his troop on the Life Saver Trail along Vancouver Islands. This 5-day adventure landed him on the cover of Boys Life Magazine in 1973.
After retirement, Doug and Sandy settled in St George, Utah. They enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, RVing, and spending time with friends, family, and his beloved dog, Holly.
Doug is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Scott (Cheryl) Fullerton, Penn (Jennifer) Shortes, Dan (Antoinette) Jones, Mary (Hilton) Covington, and John Jones; his grandchildren Justen, Ashley, Montana, Reign, Allyson, Brent, Justin, Kayla, Noah, Benjamin, Gabriel, Lily, Colton, Kallie, Lacey, Clay, Taylor and Tanner; 12 great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Murray and Grace; brother, Don Fullerton; sister, Corinne Shumway; late wife, Cheryl Hatleli; his son, Stephen; and daughter, Sydney Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, 11:00 am at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St George, UT. Viewing from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the funeral. Interment will take place at Tonaquint Cemetery.
