William Dwayne Glad was born on January 21, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Bruce Davison Glad and Edna Jeanette Hardman Glad. He was raised alongside his two brothers, Doug and Melvin Glad.
Dwayne served in the Central Atlantic States Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which included Virginia and North Carolina. Shortly after returning home, he married the love of his life, Marlene Lera Merritt, in the Salt Lake Temple on September 8, 1961. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. Following their marriage, Dwayne honorably served in the Army National Guard during the early 1960s.
Dwayne worked in various capacities throughout his life, beginning as an electrician and welding inspector. He spent most of his career with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). During that time, he returned to school and earned a state license in civil engineering, which allowed him to oversee bridge inspections throughout Utah.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dwayne faithfully served in many callings, including bishop, high council member, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Young Men's leader, and Scoutmaster. In his service as Scoutmaster, he received the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award. He loved attending the temple and found great peace and joy in that service. Dwayne and Marlene were also privileged to serve two missions together-one at the Nauvoo Temple and one in the Salt Lake Temple Square Mission.
Dwayne delighted in life's simple joys. He loved reading, playing golf, fishing, and especially making others laugh. He was well known for his humor, playful teasing, and clever puns that brought smiles and laughter to those around him. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and treasured neighborhood family nights that strengthened his love of family and community.
He was the proud father of six children: Todd Glad (Shelly), Melody Glad Greenlief (Marty), Clay Glad (Patricia), Sean Glad, Angel Glad Gladden (Roy), and Bruce Glad (Tara).
Dwayne was blessed with many grandchildren: Stuart (Lindsay), Cody (Ashlyn), Ben (Janessa), Andy (Aria), Nathan, Aaron (Lydia), Jim, Megan, Caleb (engaged to Bailey), Tyler, Amanda, Kaleb, Matthew, Shaylynn, Olivia, Gary, Jerry, William, and Emma. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Felicity, William, Felix, Adam, Peter, and Franklin.
Dwayne passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 86, in St. George, Utah.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene Glad, and his brother, Melvin Glad. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Edna Glad; his brother, Doug Glad (Sharon); his son, Sean Glad; and two daughters-in-law, Shaylynn Taylor Glad (Todd) and Allison Armstrong Glad (Clay).
He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, faithful servant, and joyful grandfather whose warmth, humor, and steady presence made the world a better place.
